Tel Aviv Continues

Day 5, Diaspora Museum and dinner at the Port. Sit back and relax-today is my day to blog our journey. My only instruction from Scott is to embellish-beyond the 5 words I originally planned on writing. We started our 5th day with a bit of homework and then to the Diaspora Museum at Tel Aviv University (try to explain Diaspora to a bunch of kids). The museum was interesting and only took 3 bathroom breaks and a long discussion of Zodiac signs. Beka was able to use a bit of her Hebrew and managed to tell us the entrance fee. We finished with the museum and strolled around the campus; I think the kids found climbing on the outside sculptures and playing in the revolving door a bit more fun. We finished our evening with a nice relaxing dinner at a kosher restaurant in the north area of Tel Aviv by the old port. We walked around the port and Esti picked out some fancy shoes to try on while Avi jogged around the pier to release some extra energy.

Day 6, Old Jaffa Tour. We started our day early and headed for a tour of the old city of Jaffa. The kids did great on our two mile walk along the beach to Jaffa, of course bribery with gum works wonders. We arrived with enough time to stop at the Abulafia Bakery(recommended by many) for some tasty treats. The tour was great, we learned about and saw many artist's galleries, the history of Jaffa and a great sculpture of an orange tree suspended from a tree to commemorate the vast orange groves that used to be located in Jaffa. Avi befriended an author from New York and spent the entire tour talking with her. Of course, we enjoyed a delicious Israeli lunch of pita, tabuoli salad, pickles, and olives. Oh, I can't forget the flea market, it puts Roseville's DeNio's Flea Market to shame. Beka continued her Hebrew bargaining for trinkets. We walked home and enjoyed a quiet evening of homework. The kids were so tired they asked to go to bed.

Day 7-Beach Bums. I think the title says it all. The morning was filled with homework and then off to the beach to build sand castles and catch the waves. More of our trip in our next post!
